Strawberry Smoothie

You can make a tasty smoothie without the need for sugar. For a healthy strawberry smoothie, combine six frozen or fresh strawberries, six ice cubes, one cup of fresh orange juice, one peeled and cut banana and half a cup of vanilla or berry yogurt. Be sure you trim the stems off fresh strawberries before mixing them in the blender with the other ingredients. Blend for 30 to 40 seconds on a high speed, or until the mix is smooth and frothy. Pour and serve. Makes two servings.


Honeydew Kiwifruit Smoothie

The honeydew and kiwifruit smoothie is low on calories and sugar and delivers a healthy serving of potassium and vitamin C. Combine two cups of chopped honeydew and one peeled and chopped kiwi with one small peeled, cored and chopped Granny Smith apple, 2 to 3 tbsps. of sugar and 1 tbsp. of lemon juice. Blend the ingredients until smooth, then add 1 cup of ice cubes into the blender. Continue blending until the ice cubes have turned the mix into a slush. Pour and serve. Makes three servings.

Healthy and Tasty Desserts!!!


1. Make your own Ice Cream Sandwiches by using graham crackers and non-fat or reduced fat
ice cream

2. Fruit and yogurt Medley- Customize this dessert by using your favorite low fat yogurt combined with your favorite fresh fruits.

3. Grapefruit with honey drizzled on top- Cut the grapefruit into slices and then drizzle honey on each slice before serving.

4. Dessert Pizza- Use whole wheat flour and seeds such as sesame or flax to make the crust. Add your favorite fruits for your toppings.

5. Pineapple with slices of coconut- Place slices of pineapple on a plate and spread shavings of coconut on each slice.

6. Meringues- This dessert is fat free, low in calories and tastes great. A couple of pieces of this
will definitely not hurt you.

7. Fruit and Nut Bowls- Mix your favorite fruits and nuts and a bowl.

8. Creamed Banana's- Cream banana's using a mixer or spatula and add your favorite fruits. Put a touch of lemon juice and serve with low fat whipped cream on top.

9. Oatmeal Crisp Snacks- This dessert involves a bit more work then the others, but it is well worth it. Mix 2 cups of oatmeal, 1/2 cup of brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract and 1/2 cup vegetable oil. Spread onto baking sheet and drizzle with cinnamon. Preheat your oven to 325 degrees and cook until it is crisp. This tastes great with slices of fresh fruit on the side.

10. Chocolate Pudding- Make your own homemade pudding with low or non fat milk.
